coming game: "adam's wordl". at this point in time, not much information has been released on what a wordl actually is, but we think it may be some sort of secret weapon...but as of yet, we have only seen a sneak preview of the first few levels, so here's a walkthrough of what we have currently played:

---------- --- -- -- -

DEFAULT KEYBOARD COMMANDS

MOVEMENT

move forward
move backward
strafe left
strafe right
jump/up
crouch/down
use
fire
alternate fire
reload
next weapon
prev weapon
throw weapon

VEHICLES

accelerate
brake/reverse
turn left
turn right
change gear up
change gear down
handbrake
police scanner
radar overlay
horn
radio
change station

MENUS

inventory
missions menu
notes screen
stats screen
faction approval screen
secrets found
*not yet implemented*
cooking screen

INVENTORY

select item
cancel selection
use item
throw item
open wallet
equip discman
next music track
prev music track

MISC

increase HUD size
decrease HUD size
bring up console
*not yet implemented*
take screenshot
*not yet implemented*
toggle radar screen

CONTROL

w
s
a
d
right mouse button
caps lock
shift
left mouse button
space bar
middle mouse button
mousewheel down
mousewheel up
backspace

CONTROL

up
down
left
right
a
z
space
s
r
ctrl
enter
1-9

CONTROL

F1
F2
F3
F4
F5
F6
F7
F8

CONTROL

left mouse button
right mouse button
enter
backspace
1
2
]
[

CONTROL

+
-
enter
F9
F10
F11
F12

NOTE: all minigames have their own controls, which are listed when a minigame is loaded.

---------- --- -- -- -

PROLOGUE/TRAINING - ADAM'S BEDROOM:

a short cutscene shows adam sleeping...not a lot else. then he wakes up. now you have control of adam. get accustomed with the controls and look around the bedroom using the mouse. you can move adam using <w,a,s,d>. press F6 to bring up a list of secrets found. there are 6 in the bedroom. (1 & 2) use <shift> the drawers and look through them for 2 secrets. (3) use <shift> adam's computer to turn it on. you can either sit through the lengthy boot-up process, or look around for a bit, while it boots up. once it's loaded, you can search through adam's e-mail for a secret, and (4) through his personal folder for another. (5) there is a gun hidden under adam's desk. it's not much use at this point in the game, as it is plastic, and only has 3 sticky darts. you can use these for target practice if you feel like it. (6) above the computer, hidden by the computer minigame CDs, there is a pocket-knife with a couple of mini flashlights attached. these can be useful in dark areas.

You can change the appearance of adam in the game by using various clothes found around the place <shift>. at the moment, the only clothing options available to you are in the drawers or on the floor. [note: the way you dress has a minimal effect on gameplay at this stage]

to one side of adam's room is a drum kit. you can score bonus points here by slamming out some sweet rhythms. you need to look around the room for a pair of drumsticks (look behind the drum kit for one, and on the floor in front of the drum kit for the other) before you can start. once seated, the 'drumming from my soul' minigame will load. simply follow the arrows scrolling up your screen and hit the corresponding cursor keys in time to score. [note: if you have the adam's wordl floor mat, you can use this and jump around on it instead].

other things to do in adam's room include:
* looking in the purple lego(TM) chest. this starts the 'lego(TM)-meister' minigame in which you can gain bonus points for creating styley and functional lego(TM) creations. press <enter> to bring up a console. type 'lego' and press <enter> again for a list of lego(TM) instruction booklets.
* if you've turned on adam's computer, you can play a selection of minigames. be warned, however, that you can get addicted to these minigames, and lose serious points for lack of interaction with the rest of adam's wordl.
* there is a TV you can watch (<1-4> change the channels), but depending on the time of day (adam's wordl is in real-time) there will likely only be infomercials on. watching these will drain both your 'intelligence' and 'rational-thinking' stats, and you may inadvertently call one of the 0800 numbers, which will put a dent in both your available cash and 'social standing' stat.
* don't be tempted to use the bed. this will quit you out of the game.
* everything in adam's room is 'usable', meaning you can pick everything up (if it's not too heavy, or attached to anything). however, due to limited inventory space, it is recommended that you only pick up items that you deem useful. such items include adam's wallet (press <1> to open), adam's discman (press <2> to equip. once the discman is equipped, the game will play music in the background. you can cycle through the available tracks <[ , ]>. [note: you can search the room for other music CDs, and can buy them later in the game]), car keys (only useful if you get to use the car. other sets of keys can be picked up later on), a pen, scrap paper (useful later on if you are required to note anything down), etc.
* you can turn on adam's stereo (also generates background music, if discman not equipped).
* if you pick up adam's camera, you can take screenshots throughout the rest of the game <F10>. if you've taken a screenshot that you think is worthy to appear on our website, e-mail it in .jpg format to screenshots@adamswordl.com. (go to http://www.adamswordl.com/ to read the screenshot submission rules).

[note: your game saves automatically, and you cannot 'undo' anything that you do, so be careful]. throughout the game, various groups and people will give you missions to accomplish. these objectives and goals may be at odds with each other, so you have to make decisions that will shape the person you become in adam's wordl. you are free to choose your own course of action, as there is no "wrong path" through adam's wordl. during the game, press <F5> to bring up the faction approval screen. here you can see how much you are liked and/or disliked by various groups and people within the game.

once you are to proceed to the next level, simply open the sliding door. [note: you are free to return to adam's bedroom at any stage, so don't worry if you've forgotten anything].

LEVEL 1 - HOUSE:

directly to your right, there is another sliding door that will take you to the garage. here you can select from a variety of melee weapons including, but not limited to: a claw hammer, a saw, various screwdrivers (both flat head and philips), and an old printer. be careful what you take (if anything), as carrying too much can seriously encumber you. once you have selected a melee weapon, the melee weapon tutorial becomes available to you. simply go to the far end of the garage, and a multitude of boxes, books, and various other junk is there for your melee pleasure. every weapon in adam's wordl has both a primary and secondary form of attack. for all melee weapons, the primary attack is simply swinging the weapon. the longer you hold down fire <mouse button 1>, the harder you will swing the weapon, resulting in a powerful, but very slow attack. a more common strategy is simply to press fire <mouse button 1> rapidly, resulting in a series of weaker, but faster attacks. every weapon has a different secondary attack <space bar>, and some come in useful throughout the course of the game. some like the saw (secondary attack - cut) are pretty obvious, and it's up to you to discover the pros & cons of each weapon.

there is 1 secret in the garage. if you search along the workbench at the northeast end of the garage (look at the compass on your HUD), you will find one part of a secret weapon - the weedeater. it won't work until you find the other part, but it's worth having.

exit the garage. there's a staircase leading up to the main floor of the house. under the staircase there is nothing of interest (yet - wait until later levels). go up the staircase. you can 'double-jump' <right mouse button twice> while going up the stairs to jump up more that one stair at a time. if done in perfect timing, you can gain serious bonus points, but be warned that if you mess up the timing and fall down the stairs, you might die. [note: if you die in the game, that's it...this game is only available in hardcore mode, where you are given only one life].

once upstairs, feel free to look around. there are a number of rooms you can check out:
* sister's room
* other sister's room
* spare room
* parent's room
* bathroom
* lounge
* kitchen
* dining room

[note: it is not recommended that you look through either of the sister's rooms, as this can result in a serious decline in your approval from both of adam's sisters, and even adam's parents!]. if you decide to search through the sister's rooms, look in both for a secret diary. if found, these can be used later in the game to earn cash from adam's sisters. (if misused however, these can result in a serious loss of cash, and a huge decline in your approval from adam's parents). there is not a lot else of interest in either of the sister's rooms.

there isn't a lot in the spare room. you can open the wardrobe and look around. if you search under the fake floor, you'll find a shotgun. ammo for this isn't available for a few levels though. you can use a book <shift> to load the 'reading books' minigame. this minigame basically involves reading the book you selected. this minigame can be dangerous: if played for too long, it can be hard to exit the minigame until you finish the book - this can seriously reduce your game time in adam's wordl.

there's nothing really exciting in the parent's bedroom. if it's nearly Christmas time (depending on when you're playing adam's wordl) you can search through the wardrobe in here to find adam's Christmas presents.

in the bathroom, you can take a shower if the occasion calls for it. right now it doesn't...that's about it at this point in the game. nothing too exciting.

the lounge is where you find the other part of the first secret weapon in adam's wordl. look behind the lay-z-boy(TM) and you'll see a large battery charging. pick it up. now open your inventory <F1> and use the battery with the other part of the weedeater you found in the garage. voila! unfortunately, due to being battery powered, it had a relatively short life span (about 2 usable hours), so use it sparsely. you can recharge it, but it takes about 16 hours to do so.

also in the lounge is another TV, and adam's DVD collection. again, be careful if you decide to watch either the TV, or a DVD. if you watch a DVD, you will lose points for lack of interaction with the rest of adam's wordl, and your hunger level will seriously increase. there is a bookshelf in the lounge, so you can again load the 'reading books' minigame. there is also a piano you can use <shift> to load the 'i wish i could play' minigame. you can tinkle some sweet ivories here and gain serious bonus points.

in the kitchen is where you first meet adam's mum. here is where you will start receiving your first missions. approach adam's mum and talk to her <shift>. the mission tutorial will now load. you will be asked to go and get the dirty plates from the lounge. a 'dirty plate counter' will appear at the top of your screen with the number of dirty plates left in the lounge (5). go into the lounge and search for the dirty plates. once you have found all 5, return them to adam's mum, and now more missions become available to you. she will give you a list of things to do throughout the day, such as go shopping (receive shopping list & extra cash), mow the lawns, clean the house, etc. pretty basic stuff, just to give you a small example of missions. [note: missions usually come with rewards (cash, or inventory items), or can lead onto other missions]. press F2 to bring up the missions menu. here you can see what missions you have been given (primary and secondary) and who gave them to you, how many objectives you must complete to finish missions, and missions you have already completed.

you can search around the kitchen for food (look at your hunger level to see if you need to eat). you have the option to either eat what you find, or use raw ingredients to whip up exquisite dishes (collect ingredients, the press <F8> to bring up the cooking screen). throughout the game, you will come across various ingredients, and at higher character levels, you can cook amazing meals. you can entertain other players in adam's wordl with the funny and interesting dishes you can create, ranging from the ever-popular chocolate chip cookies to the curiously tasty omelette. of course, you can only cook a dish if you know the recipe, so if you look beside the microwave to the north end of the kitchen, you will find a cookbook with a few recipes. you can get new recipes in several ways throughout adam's wordl: as a reward for a quest, going to a night class (skill - cooking), or even by purchasing them. at the moment it is best to leave any raw ingredients where they are, rather than carrying them around with you. you can always come back to adam's house to cook.

for now, just eat the chocolate biscuits in the pantry and head out the back door.

LEVEL 2 - OUTSIDE HOUSE

you can run around outside and check out the surroundings. there are a few places of interest:
* the letterbox - head west down the driveway. here you can receive letters, notifying you of various things, or giving you additional missions. sometimes you may receive an inventory item in the letterbox.
* the lemon tree - in the back yard to the southeast. you can pick lemons here. great for some recipes. also great to throw at the neighbours kids.
* the motorway - right up the back of the section, the back yard backs onto the motorway. not so interesting now, but great later on in the game.
* under the house - if you go a little bit down the driveway, you'll see a small door on the side of the house. open it and you can crawl under the house. you need to know this for the mission "networking the house" later on. you can also pick up the crowbar here. the lawnmower is stored here.

if you decide to do the "mow the lawns" mission, use the lawnmower <shift> to bring it out from under the house. you will also need to search under the house for the petrol can and a funnel (secondary objectives). once you have these items, you can use them to fill up the lawn mower with petrol. use the lawnmower again <shift> to start mowing the lawns (opens lawnmowing minigame). there are 4 segments of lawn you need to mow in order to complete the mission. the first is just down from where you got the lawnmower. this one is easy. the second is back up the drive, near the back door you came out. also easy. the third section is the southeast side of the house. it is on a slope, and there are a few trees that get in the way. the last section is a 2-tier lawn in the back yard. you need to manoeuvre the lawnmower up the southeast section, past the lemon tree and over to the washing line. this is the only place that the lawnmower will start. once you've got it started, it shouldn't be a problem. there are a few sloped bits in the last section, so be sure that you don't lose the lawnmower over the edge! once you're done, put the lawnmower back under the house, go back inside and talk to adam's mum again. she will pay you cash, based on the efficiency of your lawnmowing. if you've got the weedeater, before going back to adam's mum, you can use it around the edges of the lawns to make them neater, and earn bonus cash from adam's mum.

once you've mowed the lawns, you can go back to the bathroom and take a shower. no bonus points or anything, but it can help later on if you go out into the rest of adam's wordl and you don't smell like grass and petrol fumes.

---------- --- -- -- -
